(Moulton, AL), (June 11th, 2025) – The Lawrence County Public Library Board has voted to close the library on both Thursday, June 19, and Friday, June 20, 2025.
Thursday's closure recognizes Juneteenth, a State and Federal holiday. The additional closure on Friday, June 20, is in response to temporary staffing limitations following a recent medical emergency at the library. While all library staff—except the Executive Director—are part-time employees limited to 29 hours per week, those hours have been exceeded in recent days to help maintain normal operations.
“Fridays are typically our quietest day,” said Executive Director Rex Bain, “and with the holiday preceding it, the Board felt it would be an appropriate time to give staff a much-needed break.”
Library policy requires at least two staff members on site for the building to be open to the public. This policy proved critical during the recent medical event, reinforcing the importance of maintaining safe staffing levels at all times.
The library is actively recruiting additional volunteers and working to hire a temporary part-time employee to support its goal of remaining open at least 40 hours per week. While reduced hours remain a possibility, every effort is being made to prevent disruption to service.
